Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
