Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played extensive hours and lose most times. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.
The definite advancement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often challenge one another. Howard had access into some of the foremost players in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
