Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved playing numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play extensive hours and lose most times. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and concentrate more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often play against each other. Howard was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best women players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
