Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the final game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
