Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
