Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
